WASHINGTON – Brenda Antonia Sells of the Theodore Tunick and Co. insurance agency in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, has been named the 2019 PIA National Customer Service Representative (CSR) of the Year. The award was presented April 2, 2019 at a ceremony in Arlington, Virginia, by the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA).

The PIA National CSR of the Year award is given annually to an outstanding customer service representative who works for a PIA member insurance agency. Nominations for this award are made by PIA members. The award recognizes a CSR who has improved operations of the agency, served their clients in a unique or extraordinary way and engaged in community involvement and activities to advance the betterment of the insurance industry.

“This year’s PIA National CSR of the Year is a consummate professional with a can-do attitude,” said PIA National Vice-president/Treasurer Wayne White, in presenting the award. “Brenda Sells is an outstanding performer for her agency and is involved in her community. She is a believer in the importance of insurance education. In 2016, she was selected by the National Alliance as the first faculty member in the Virgin Islands to train to teach liability coverages to other insurance professionals.”

“I have found that in this industry that although we need to relate the technical insurance knowledge that we possess to our customers to get them into our agency doors, it is our hearts that keep them there,” said Sells in accepting the award.

Sells related her experiences helping clients in 2017 in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, saying the disasters “gave me the opportunity to use my heart in the service of others. We are here to protect and to serve. No, we are not in law enforcement, but people do rely on us to protect their most valuable assets: their life’s work, their dreams and their desires to succeed.”

Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
