NFIP Extended Through Nov. 21

Another short term extension when a long term renewal is needed.
October 1, 2019

President Donald Trump has signed a continuing resolution (CR) that will avoid a federal government shutdown by funding the government at current levels. The CR extends until November 21 the authorization for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

“Short-term extensions are not a solution, and they create uncertainty for consumers, the insurance industry, and real estate markets,” said Jon Gentile, vice president of Government Relations of PIA National. “Thankfully, a way forward for a long-term reauthorization of the NFIP already exists in the bipartisan legislation that passed unanimously out of the House Financial Services Committee in June.”

“PIA National calls on the House to pass this legislation cleanly as soon as possible,” Gentile said, “and we ask the Senate to then do the same. Congress should not miss this bipartisan opportunity to reform the NFIP and reauthorize it on a long-term basis.”
